Notice how the weak area where the crack used to be has been built up. Tapering it down to meet the frame, preventing any further cracks in this area.
The opposte side was also strengthened as a precautionary measure.

Repair ends up stronger than before
My approach to welding/repairing a crack in a frame is to ensure the weld/repair is stronger than before. The weld will normally occur in a weak spot on the frame. By building up the frame using an aluminium TIG welder I carefully build up the damaged area with an additional layer of aluminium material, ensuring sufficient strength to withstand future punishment in the same area.
